Bill Introduced for More Funding for #Campus #SexualAssault Investigations. #TitleIX #HigherEd

As I noted in a previous blog post, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights recently indicated that they were experiencing significant delays in processing sexual assault complaints against postsecondary educational institutions. They attributed the delay to the recent substantial increase in the number of filings and a lack of adequate funding to handle the increased workload.

Recently, Rep. Jackie Speier (D. Calif) introduced legislation that requests additional funding for the exclusive purpose of enforcing Title IX (sexual assault) and the Clery Act (crime reporting).  The legislation appears to seek an additional $5,000,00 for both Title IX and Clery Act enforcement.  Although the request for additional appropriations is only one part of the introduced legislation, it is noteworthy given OCR’s recent “plea” regarding their workload and the need for additional funding.
